A delegation of 37 law enforcement officers from Guangdong, Shenzhen and Macao attended early last month a five-day Narcotics Commander Course co-ordinated by the Narcotics Bureau (NB). Being the second one organised for Mainland and Macao Narcotics Commanders, the study course was conducted in PHQ using the Police College's training facilities. The content of the study course covered the Government's strategy in combating dangerous drugs, drug trend in Hong Kong, intelligence-led operations, operational planning, surveillance techniques, financial investigation and informer management. Assistant Commissioner (Crime) Wong Fook-chuen presented certificates to the delegates at the course's closing ceremony on October 12. In his speech, Mr Wong said that as criminals become more and more sophisticated, law enforcement officers must be ready to respond, and sharing of knowledge is one of the ways to ensure readiness to meet the challenges ahead. The course would also boost mutual understanding, while experience sharing among the narcotics officers in Guangdong, Macao and Hong Kong would benefit the battle against illicit drug trafficking in the three places. The Mainland delegation was led by Mr Lin Weixiong, Deputy Director, Narcotics Control Bureau, Public Security Department, Guangdong. Mr Yang Jianghua, Director of the bureau, also attended the closing ceremony.
