The New Territories North (NTN) Regional Sports Day on November 30 was another major effort by NTN to promote a healthy lifestyle and camaraderie among its officers. In support of the management's endeavour, the officers gathered early on the day at the PSRC, ready to battle for the Major Unit Trophy and Minor Unit Trophy.
This year saw introduction of more sports for the annual sport meet, which included 7-a-side soccer, 3-on-3 basketball, badminton, table tennis, tug-of-war, bowling and fun games. Vying for the Major Unit Trophy were Yuen Long District (YLDIST), Tuen Mun District (TMDIST), Border District (BORDIST) and Taipo District (TPDIST) while for the Minor Unit Trophy were Traffic NTN, Crime NTN, Regional Headquarters (RHQ) Team A and RHQ Team B. Tough competition first began at the basketball court. With the joining of two players from the local basketball league division A, RHQ Team B defeated last year's champion TMDIST without much challenge. Yet, TMDIST Commander Ng Ka-sing helped keep his district's stronghold on badminton against challenges from Traffic NTN. BORDIST also came up with a remarkable performance this year and came away with a gold medal in table tennis and two silver medals in bowling and fun game.
The atmosphere of the day reached a climax in the afternoon at the finals of soccer and tug-of-war Trophies were presented in the presence of the guest of honour, former Director of Operations Tsang Wai-hung, amid spectators' thunderous cheering for their teams. RHQ Team A, formed by EU NTN, Administration NTN and Regional Control & Command Centre, received the Minor Unit Trophy from Regional Commander NTN Cheung Siu-wah, while TMDIST edged out BORDIST to capture the Major Unit Trophy by a margin of one point. These "Orange Gunners" successfully defended the title and once again took the Major Unit Trophy from Mr Tsang.
