Force Ethics Corner introduced

As part of the Force's ongoing drive to uphold integrity, as well as fight corruption and misconduct in all its forms within the organisation, an Ethics Corner is to be introduced on POINT. The Ethics Corner is an initiative developed as part of the 2006 Force Anti-Corruption Strategy.

The Ethics Corner aims at creating a central repository for all directives, reference materials and other papers related to integrity management. Currently these documents are spread far and wide throughout the Force and Government as a whole and it is hoped that by consolidating these materials into a single site on POINT, the Force's anti-corruption and integrity management messages will be disseminated more effectively.

'Without integrity, everything we do is flawed'

Speaking before the launch of the Ethics Corner, Director of Management Services Mike Dowie said: "Force management is committed one hundred per cent to fighting corruption and misconduct at every level of our organisation. As I've said before, 'without integrity, everything we do is flawed.' The latest Force Anti-Corruption Strategy was introduced just over 12 months ago in November 2006 and sets out our main target areas and how we mean to tackle them. The Ethics Corner is part of this strategy."

He added: "From the conversations that I have had with members of the Force, it is clear that, whilst much is being done to tackle corruption and misconduct, it is not always easy for staff to access the relevant material. So, to further strengthen the effective communication of the anti-corruption message, the Internal Investigations Office (IIO) has set up an Ethics Corner on POINT that will be accessible to all members of the Force.

"I urge all staff to visit the Ethics Corner. It gives an excellent overview of how the Force is fighting misconduct and corruption within our organisation. It will help to guide the behaviour of all Force members and encourage everyone to conduct themselves in accordance with our Values. Additionally, it should be of great use to officers tasked with the job of carrying out disciplinary reviews."

Ethics Corner on POINT Homepage

Chief Inspector (HKI) IIO Mak Ping-hong, who headed the team responsible for designing the Ethics Corner, pointed out: "We decided to include the Ethics Corner as a link icon on the POINT Homepage to give it maximum exposure. The website will open with a foreword from the DMS and includes different links, such as policies and strategies; manuals and orders; directives and legislation; relevant OffBeat articles; the Corruption and Misconduct Prevention Bulletin; statistics; external resources; and the homepages of Complaints & Internal Investigations Branch and IIO. Together, we hope that these links will provide a broad and useful overview of the Force's integrity management efforts.

"It's been something of a challenge putting the Ethics Corner together, but, nonetheless, a rewarding experience. I hope colleagues would find it useful and I can assure you all that it will be updated on a regular basis. If you have any comments or suggestions, you can contact me on telephone number 2860-2347 or by e-mail: cip-hki-iio. I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of IIO and Information Systems Wing for their excellent assistance in this project."

The Ethics Corner will be uploaded onto the POINT homepage.
