The Kowloon East Operational Base (KEOB) has become the first police building awarded with an "Energy Efficiency Buillding" Certificate by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department (EMSD).

During a presentation ceremony held on December 21, Chief Inspector Tang Chi-ming from Railway District received the certificate from EMSD Deputy Director (Regulatory Services), Mr Chan Hun-cheung. Also awarded with the same certificate at the ceremony were 19 other government buildings and 21 private buildings.

In March last year, EMSD modified the "Energy Efficiency Building" certification programme, which aims to promote best practices in energy management in both public and private sectors. To help the operational base meet the requirements of the certification, EMSD staff compiled energy audits for KEOB, covering lighting, air conditioning and electrical and lift or escalator installations to provide minimum energy consumption standards for these installations.
