Singapore officers learn the ropes with Marine |
||
The Marine Region hosted a delegation of four officers from the Singaporean Police Coast Guard (SPCG) for a five-day attachment in March. The attachment was part of an ongoing exchange programme to promote experience sharing between the Force and SPCG. After paying a courtesy call on Marine Regional Commander Chang Mo-see, the visitors heard a comprehensive briefing on the Region's resources and strategies and visited Marine North Division and Marine Harbour Division. They also spent three days with the Small Boat Division (SBDIV) where they watched a demonstration on day-and-night high-speed interception, and learned about the handling techniques of the Division's interceptors as well as the Division's operational tactics in dealing with non-compliance high-speed craft. Commenting on the SPCG officers' visit, SBDIV Superintendent Ling Wai-po observed: "Singapore and Hong Kong are not dissimilar in terms of coastal size, geography and maritime related problems. Besides fostering a harmonious relationship between the two localities, the visit enables officers to gain first hand experience of the types of vessels and equipment being used by both sides and provides an excellent opportunity for them to discuss the difference in policing tactics and strategies." After a full and exciting five-day programme, the SPCG officers were extremely impressed by what they had seen. They will certainly have plenty to share with their colleagues at home.
