Commissioner Tang King-shing, senior directorate officers, Force members and their families turned out in full force on the first Physical Fitness and Health Management (PHM) Day held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club in Mong Kok on April 27 and enjoyed an array of interesting activities and programmes. Aiming at enhancing knowledge of health and physical fitness among officers and their family members at all ages, the "PHM Day" featured exhibitions and booths on up-to-date tips on health-related topics, and health assessment stations to let officers know how fit they were. Healthy diet menu was also provided that day to show it was possible to have both healthy and delicious diet. Besides demonstrations and exhibitions, "PHM Day" also offered seminars on the most popular health related topics like cancer prevention, medical insurance and sport injuries. Guests from the Department of Health and the private sector, as well as Dr Lobo Louie from the Hong Kong Baptist University shared experiences of their professions with the participants. To highlight the fun of participating in sporting events, rope skipping experts showed all the possibilities over rope skipping. In addition, Inspector Samuel Yu Sum-yee demonstrated his fascinating skills of artistic cycling, which held everyone spellbound. The Indoor Rowing Competition co-organised by the Police Adventure Club was the centre of attention. A total of 11 teams from different Formations gave their best in the contest. At the end of the 15-minute neck-breaking competition, Airport District captured the championship while Emergency Unit New Territories North and New Territories North Headquarters clinched the second and third places respectively. The winners received their well-earned trophies from CP. CP emphasised that the "PHM Day" was a comprehensive measure to promote an "Integrated Approach to Physical Fitness and Health Management". This approach, he added, demonstrated the partnership between the Force management, which provided information and facilities, and officers and their families, who participated in sporting activities. To further demonstrate the Force's roles in PHM, PHM information stands have been set up at all police stations to display and distribute information leaflets on various topics. Automated blood pressure monitors are available at POC and PSRC to make blood pressure measuring convenient for all. The key message of the "PHM Day" was "exercise regularly and enjoy it with your family". Achievements in sports and arts honoured Meanwhile on the same day, Tuen Mun District claimed the Purdon Shield with its overall outstanding achievement in sports in 2007. At the same time, 39 officers were presented with awards for their achievements in sports and arts within and without the Force in the same year. Among the officers, Woman Police Constable Wong Siu-ping from Sha Tin District has clinched the Watson Cup as the overall outstanding athlete in 2007. Thirty-one officers have won the Force Colours Award for Sport with their outstanding achievements in, or services to, sports in 2007, while seven won the Force Colours Award for Arts.
