UK delegation looks at
policing of Equestrian Events

A delegation from the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) and the UK Home Office called at the Force on August 15 to look at how the 2008 Olympic Equestrian Events were being policed in Hong Kong.

The delegation, which is responsible for security and policing preparations for the London Olympic Games in 2012, comprised Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur, Commander Ian Quinton and Sergeant David Jackson of the MPS Olympic Security Directorate, and Mr Robert Raine, Director of Safety and Security, UK Home Office.

Following a courtesy call on Commissioner Tang King-shing, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yam Tat-wing and Deputy Commissioner (Management) Tsang Wai-hung, the delegation attended a briefing and an experience-sharing session on planning and security arrangements with Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Suen Kwai-leung, Commandant Police Tactical Unit Wong Chi-hung and the heads of the five Force Working Groups.

Following the session, the delegation visited the Victoria Park Live Site, Hong Kong Olympic Village, University Station Public Transport Interchange, Shing Mun River Channel Marine Zone and Sha Tin Venue, during which Venue Commanders and officers directly deployed for the Events were able to brief the delegation on how the Events were being policed and share their experience of being involved in an Olympic Event.

The programme concluded in the late evening with a visit to the Headquarters Command and Control Centre and a meeting with Director of Operations Koo Sii-hong.
