In support of the Commissioner's strategic direction on "Engaging the Community", Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) has been striving to forge a closer and more proactive liaison with all sectors of the community, including the Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) community, in a bid to strengthen their understanding of and confidence in the Force. As part of YTDIST's "Interactive Engagement Programme with NEC" and to recognise the service and contribution to the NEC community by officers, the Yau Tsim District Outstanding Police Award Scheme organised by the India Association, was launched in July this year. Among the candidates nominated for the scheme, two officers, Station Sergeant Leung Yat-tung, Officer-in-Charge of the Nepalese Task Force, and Police Constable Chung Man-hon, a key member of the Chungking-Mirador Task Force, were selected to receive the Outstanding Police Award, which is a testament to YTDIST's success in promoting communication among different ethnic communities and in enlisting the NEC support for local policing. The India Association held an award presentation ceremony on August 15 in conjunction with celebration of the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of India. Among the guests of honour were Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Tam Chi-yuen, and representatives from the Force, including Commissioner Tang King-shing, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yam Tat-wing, Kowloon West Regional Commander Tang How-kong, and Yau Tsim District Commander Chung Hung-fung.
