Mr Chow Wing-tak, Chief Fire Officer (Hong Kong Island, Islands and Marine) of the Fire Services Department (FSD) presented a letter of appreciation to Police Constable Ho Tung-ming from Emergency Unit Hong Kong Island in recognition of his exemplary standard of professionalism and devotion to duty in saving a 60-year-old woman from the sea on May 24 this year.

The woman was reported missing after a vessel moored at the waterfront opposite the Aberdeen Wholesale Fish Market had suddenly submerged in the small hours that day. The situation was critical but an EU car soon arrived at the scene, carrying Woman Sergeant Ma Pui-man, Senior Police Constable Yan Wai-tong, Police Constable Lai Tin-yin and PC Ho. With a boatman indicating the location of the submerged vessel, PC Ho immediately took off his uniform, jumped into the sea and pulled the woman ashore in darkness.

All the other persons onboard the submerged vessel were also rescued as a result of the joint efforts by the EU officers and firemen.
