With the successful hosting of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events in Hong Kong, the Force can justifiably take pride in having completed another landmark achievement and opened another important chapter in its history. Months and months of meticulous planning finally came to fruition as the Force successfully rose to the challenge posed by the Olympic Games, conducting a major policing operation to ensure that the Events proceed in a smooth and secure manner and ensuring that normal service to the people of Hong Kong was completely unaffected. The whole period was a testimony to the Force's commitment to the success of the Beijing Olympics, and to officers' professionalism, passion and pride. Besides this sense of passion and pride, the operation, undoubtedly, has also given all officers an invaluable experience that will stand the Force in good stead in taking up similar challenges in the future. In addition it is something that they will look back upon with a wonderful sense of achievement for the rest of their lives. Now that the final curtain of the Paralympic Equestrian Events has been lowered, every officer involved in the whole policing operation can breath a huge sigh of relief, and derive much satisfaction from having made a small contribution to the Beijing Olympics. The followings show how some officers saw their involvement in the Paralympic Equestrian Events. Though performing different duties at different posts, they worked to the best of their abilities throughout the Equestrian Events. Force Search Unit Police Constable Lam Chi-wai was pleased that security arrangements were executed meticulously, earning praises of the media. "It's an honour for me to take part in the operation. I'll miss the officers from different units I worked with in the past two months," he said. Police Constable Lai Wing-fai from the Sha Tin Police Venue Command Centre said: "It's a very meaningful operation. Now that the Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events are over, I miss everything associated with the Events. Though I have worked in the operation for more than one month, I enjoy every bit of it." Screening Team Spotters Sergeant Law Kam-ming and Woman Police Constable Chan Ka-yee credited success of the Equestrian Events with officers' hard work and esprit de corps. "Knowing that everybody is safe and spectators have enjoyed immensely gave us a very great feeling," they said. Venue Task Force Woman Police Constable Law Nga-yi said her friendly attitude had won praises from some overseas visitors. She believed that the experience of the successful policing operation would serve as a useful reference for similar operations in the future. Senior Police Constable Lau King-choi from the Dogs Unit was delighted that after working long hours on many a hot day, he and his "partner", patrol dog "Godfrey", had accomplished a very important mission. For the policing operation, Godfrey had been retrained to sniff out explosives. For all the officers, it is a great honour and great pride to associate with "a great event that is hard to come by in a century".
