Officer/Unit Appreciation from Service commended
HKPF Mr Paul Surtees, President of the Royal Over-Seas League Mr Surtees has written to a local English daily and a London newspaper praising Hong Kong's emergency services, in particular the Police, for promptly and efficiently handling various incidents arising from Typhoon Nuri, such as fallen trees blocking roads and pavements. Referring to the trees felled by gale-force winds in Mid-Levels, Mr Surtees said, "...But within minutes, police officers arrived to section off affected areas and to redirect traffic, no mean feat, in a hurricane. All credit to them."
APTDIST Local airline The airline has complimented APTDIST for providing prompt and professional services when Typhoon Nuri disrupted its operations for over 18 hours, resulting in over 100 flights for some 18,000 passengers being cancelled.
KWTDIST Property management manager In a letter to KWT DDC Siu Chak-yee, the manager said he was pleased to have attended again the "2008 Kwai Tsing District Police Work Summit", and attributed the big drop in crimes in Kwai Tsing District to the joint efforts between the police and the local community. In particular, the manager appreciated the liaison work of SGT Hung Moon-kwun and his colleagues, as well as their readiness to listen to local residents' views and needs. Finally, the manager pledged to work with the police in close partnership to further improve law and order, and quality of life in Kwai Tsing District.
SGT Li Wai-chung and DPC Hung Kam-wah from RAILDIST Resident The resident's wife lost a plastic bag containing $20,000 in cash in a MTR station on the way to Shenzhen in August. Although the officers could not trace the bag, the resident still sent an e-mail to thank the officers for making a great effort to look for the bag.
SSGT Leung Wing-man, SGT Chan Hon-yick, PCs Chau Tak-meng and Yau Kin-cheong, and WPC Leung Sze-man, all from TYDIV Resident TYDIV formed a search party comprising the officers in July immediately after the resident reported that his daughter was missing during a trip to the Tsing Yi Swimming Pool. The officers combed Tsing Yi for four hours and eventually located the missing girl in a housing estate, prompting her father to send a thank you letter to the officers.
PCs Cheung Kwok-lung, Lam Sun-ming and Kan Ka-wo, all from LMCDIV Mainland visitor The officers were carrying out crowd control duties at the San Tin Public Transport Interchange in July when the visitor reported that he had left his luggage in an unknown taxi. The officers acted immediately and eventually located the taxi driver, who returned to the scene with the visitor's luggage. On his departure from Hong Kong, the visitor wrote to express his heartfelt thanks and high regard to the officers.
