The award presentation of the "Drugs Free Bookmarker Design Competition cum Anti-Drugs Seminar of Project Silverbridge", organised by New Territories North Region and Cheer Lutheran Centre, took place at the North District Community Hall, Sheung Shui, on September 17.

In a bid to halt the trend of youngsters involved in dangerous drug cases, NTN Region has teamed up with government departments, non-governmental organisations, parents and schools to educate young persons on the harm of drug abuse. NTN Region also hopes that teachers, students and parents would understand more about police anti-drugs work, and parents and teachers would pay more attention to the behaviour of students to prevent them from experimenting with dangerous drugs.

To make students more wary of the harm of psychotropic drugs, NTN Region held the "Drugs Free Bookmarker Design Competition" during the last summer holidays. More than 600 entries were received and 37 students were awarded with champion, runners-up and merit awards.

The winning entries were well received by the guests attending the award presentation. To disseminate anti-drugs messages, the work of the champion would be reproduced for distribution to primary and secondary school students in Tai Po and North District.

Over the past year, NTN Region organised computer classes, soccer training sessions, volunteer services and sharing sessions in a bid to make members of the public, in particular youngsters, more aware of the harm of drugs abuse. In addition, NTN Region distributed anti-drugs leaflets to northbound young persons at all boundary control points.

The Bookmarker Design Competition is one of NTN Region's initiatives to steer youngsters away from drugs
