The Potential Officer Scheme (POS) and the Direct Application Avenue for Junior Police Officers (DA) provide junior police officers (JPOs) with opportunities to advance to the Inspectorate. Indeed, many candidates have succeeded over the years. In the last financial year, 36 JPOs were appointed to the rank of Inspector through POS or DA avenue. Among them is Inspector Dicken Ko Tik, who was appointed through DA and is now working in Wan Chai Division. Dicken joined the Force in January 2007 and was appointed to the present rank in December 2007. "I'm delighted to have chosen the avenue of DA where my leadership potentials and diversified capabilities to serve the Force are identified early and properly trained up. During the process of DA, I understood I was competing with candidates with direct entry background, and candidates from POS. I made an extra effort with better understanding of my own talents as a Force leader," said Dicken. Depending on the officers' individual background and police service, they may choose to pursue advancement through POS or DA. The details of application are as follows:

It will cover the selection procedure of Probationary Inspector and the difference between the avenues of POS and DA.
