To further promote the culture of service quality and to reduce the number of complaints against police, Kowloon West Region has recently set up a Regional Complaints Prevention Committee.

The committee is chaired by Yau Tsim Deputy District Commander Paul Lau and comprises representatives from all Formations of the Region. It will discuss cases of interest, draw on collective wisdom and adopt useful practices with a view to bringing complaints prevention messages to all officers of Kowloon West Region.

The committee aims to monitor the complaints trend in the Region, identify areas of activities or procedures that are likely to attract complaints, review such procedures and tactics, identify the best practices to reduce avoidable complaints, and finally formulate action plans and promote the culture of providing quality services by reducing complaints.

Kowloon West Regional Commander Tang How-kong attended the first meeting of the committee and presented appointment letters to all committee members, marking the start of their 18-month appointments.

During the meeting, Mr Tang spoke of the complaints trend in his Region and strategic plans to handle and prevent complaints against police. In this regard, he emphasised the importance of co-operation among different Formations.

He also discussed with the committee the difficulties being faced by frontline officers, and assured them of his support.

In response to the committee's invitation, representatives of the Complaints Against Police Office Kowloon also attended the discussion and came up with suggestions on complaints prevention.

To drive home the importance of service quality to all officers of Kowloon West Region, the committee will produce a training package on complaints prevention for Training Days.

For Kowloon West Regional Commander Tang How-kong, co-operation among Formations is one of the keys to reducing complaints against police
