Symposium combines police studies and arts

 

Commissioner Tang King-shing and Deputy Commissioner (Management) Tsang Wai-hung headed a delegation to the Symposium on Police Studies of the Strait cum Hong Kong and Macao held in Macao from November 3 to 5.

The Symposium was held by the Police Association of China and co-organised by the Secretary for Security of Macao. Its central theme was "The Effectiveness of Criminal Justice and Policing in the New Era" which covered a broad spectrum of issues, including criminal investigation, criminal justice as well as the training, management and co-operation strategies of police forces in relation to collaboration among the law enforcement agencies of the Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao in combatting transboundary crime.

Leaders of police forces, policing experts and police officers from the four places as well as distinguished guests, including Mr Edmund H W Ho, Chief Executive of the Macao SAR, attended the Symposium held in the Macao Tower.

There were five plenary sessions in the Symposium during which the authors of 25 selected Symposium papers gave presentations. Among the papers were contributions by Force members, including Senior Superintendent (Human Resources) Chiu Kai-ting's "Development of a Value-driven Competency-based Performance Management System in the Hong Kong Police Force", Superintendent (Liaison Bureau) Wong Kin-wah's "A Study and Discussion on the Roles of the Mainland and Hong Kong in Regional Criminal Justice Collaboration" and Yau Tsim District Police Community Relations Officer Lee Tak-chung's "A Study on HKPF's Policy of Variety Policing".

In addition, three other Force papers were also included in the Symposium Proceedings. Mr Tang presided at the first plenary session and Mr Tsang acted as commentator in the third one.

Exhibition on Painting and Calligraphy works by officers

During the Symposium, the Mainland, Taiwan cum Hong Kong and Macao Police Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition jointly organised by the Police Association of China, and Police Literature and Arts Association of China was held in the Macao Tower. Works by police officers of the four places in different genres and styles reflected their spirit of serving the community and their devotion to duty. A total of 20 pieces of works from the Force were on display in the exhibition.

Upon its closure on November 5, the exhibition moved to Shenzhen Municipal Public Security Bureau where it was open to the public for three days. Among the many visitors to the exhibition were Director of Personnel and Training Tang Hau-sing and representatives of the Hong Kong Police Painting and Calligraphy Club.

The works of police officers on display in the painting and calligraphy exhibition reflect their spirit of serving the community
