On November 12, Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Suen Kwai-leung presented a letter of appointment to Superintendent (Enforcement & Control New Territories North) Martin Cadman as the new Officer-in-Charge of the Force Escort Group (FEG), after Superintendent Chau Tai-tak had completed a very successful two-and-a-half year FEG tour.

Mr Suen also expressed his appreciation of Mr Cadman's acceptance of this challenging secondary duty.

In the coming few years, a number of major events in Hong Kong, like the Clinton Global Initiative, Asia, in December 2008 and the 2009 East Asian Games, will require the professional support of the FEG. With Mr Cadman's experience and expertise earned from previous major events like the 2005 WTO HKMC; 2008 Beijing Olympic Torch Relay; and Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events as well as his previous service in the FEG, Mr Suen has great confidence in Mr Cadman's competency to command the FEG to contribute to the success of the coming major events, as Mr Chau did in the past.

Mr Cadman is looking forward to the challenges of his appointment. Though all FEG members are performing a secondary duty, their professionalism in escort duties has been widely recognised and appreciated. Mr Cadman will ensure that the FEG will maintain the highest level of professionalism.

Mr Suen also paid tribute to Mr Chau's significant contribution to the success of the FEG. Mr Chau led FEG to come through many challenges during the visits of International Protected Persons to Hong Kong and many major events, in particular the Torch Relay, further enhancing the FEG's reputation.
