IPCC Members and Observers visit PTU |

Four members of the Independent Police Complaints Council (IPCC), Mr Edward Pong Chong, Dr Lawrence Lam Chi-kit, Mr Wong Kwok-yan and Mr Clement Tao Kwok-lau, as well as 13 Observers, accompanied by IPCC Secretary, Mrs Philomena Leung, visited the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters (PTU HQ) in Fanling on November 4. They were greeted and briefed by PTU Commandant Wong Chi-hung, Deputy Commandant Duncan McCosh, and Chief Inspector (Training 2) Lau Mei-yam on the history, roles and training of the PTU Company. A demonstration of the tactics used by PTU Platoons to deal with various scenarios of Public Order Events in an escalated situation was held during the visit. The visitors also took the opportunity to discuss with frontline officers the difficulties they had encountered in carrying out their daily duties. Accompanying the IPCC Members and Observers on the visit were Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality) Ma Wai-luk, Complaints and Internal Investigations Branch (C&IIB) Chief Superintendent Fan Sik-ming, Complaints Against Police Office Acting Senior Superintendent Siu Kit-hung. The visit was organised by C&IIB as part of a programme to further enhance the IPCC visitors' understanding of the difficulties faced by officers in frontline policing.
