A total of 14 Force records were re-written at the Police Annual Swimming Gala 2008 held at the Shing Mun Valley Swimming Complex on December 13.

Cheered on by guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Yam Tat-wing, a record number of 360 Force members took part in a variety of events.

As it was the case in recent years, the highlight of the swimming gala was the "Directorate Relay", which saw the team made up of Assistant Commissioner Wong Fook-chuen and Chief Superintendent Cheng Se-lim not only capturing the title but also setting a new record of 1 minute and 20 seconds, three seconds faster than the old record.

The team made up of Chief Superintendents David Gunton and Au Chi-kwong took the second place, whilst the team of Assistant Commissioner Suen Kwai-leung and Chief Superintendent Cheung Tak-keung came third.

Among the 33 Formations taking part in the swimming gala, the Police College carried away the trophies for the Men Formation Overall Champion, the Women Formation Overall Champion and the Best Participating Formation, while New Territories South Regional Headquarters won the prize for the Best Cheering Team.

In individual events, Probationary Inspector Ki Kar-wai from Police College clinched the Man Individual Overall Champion title and Woman Police Constable Tu Pui-yee from Police Tactical Unit Headquarters was the Woman Individual Overall Champion.

Another highlight of the swimming gala was the participation in invitation relay events by teams from the Guangdong Public Security Bureau and the Macao Police, which were led by Mr Zhu Mingjian and Mr Chan Ping-sum from Guangdong and Macao respectively.
