To support the policy on "Healthy Campus" launched by the Task Force on Youth Drug Abuse led by Mr Wong Yan Lung, Secretary for Justice, Western District organised an Anti-youth Drug Abuse Large Publicity Board Design Competition at the beginning of the new school term in September last year for secondary and primary schools in the Western and Southern Districts. Assisted by the Western District Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents Association in combatting youth drug trafficking and abuse of psychotropic drugs with education and publicity, the competition aimed at instilling among youngsters a sense of responsibility towards society and helping them set positive values for their lives. A total of 37 schools in the Western and Southern Districts, as well as one non-government organisation participated in the competition, submitting about 4,400 entries. The competition was divided into four groups, namely junior and senior groups for primary schools and the same for secondary schools. The champion, three runners-up, and six merit-prize winners were presented with book vouchers and certificates. Forty prize-winning entries were selected by an Adjudicating Committee comprising former Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai, who is a Committee Member of the Hong Kong Youth Commission, Dr Hui Pak-kwan, Committee Member of the Action Committee Against Narcotics, Ms Au Yim-lung, Chairlady of the Fight Crime Committee of the Central and Western District, Mr Ko Kam-cheung, Chairman of the Fight Crime Committee of the Southern District, Mr Ng Siu-keung, Chairman of the Western District Junior Police Call (WJPC) Honorary Presidents Council, and six other WJPC Honorary Presidents. These entries have been reproduced into four large boards to be displayed on the outer walls of the Western Police Station, Aberdeen Police Station and Stanley Police Station. The competition's prize presentation ceremony was held at Western Police Station on January 10, featuring eight anti-narcotics publicity game booths to drive home the harm of drug abuse to pupils. All the participating entries will be on display at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, City Hall and Hong Kong Central Library in April and September.
