The Race Discrimination Ordinance (RDO) will be a core component of the Force-wide topic for the next cycle of Training Day. The Ordinance was gazetted on July 18 last year and will come into operation in the first quarter of 2009. It will give Force members an opportunity to further entrench social values and will enable everyone to live in a fairer society, regardless of ethnic origins. The Training Day package aims at giving officers a better idea of the provisions of all the ordinances related to discrimination in Hong Kong, in particular the RDO so that officers will comply with its provisions while providing services to the public. The package, developed jointly by Support Wing and the Police College, contains a message from College Director Cheuk Chun-yin. Various scenarios and discussions of discrimination are used to ensure officers' understanding of the ordinances. To help Formations prepare their Training Day packages, Force Training Officer, Dr Cheung Kam-chuen, will conduct seven train-the-trainer workshops between February 10 and 20 for Training and Staff Relations Officers (TSRO) and District Training Team Members. The training package will be rolled out to frontline officers according to the schedules set by their TSROs. Training Manual and a PowerPoint presentation will be uploaded to the Training Days Resource Bank on POINT after the train-the-trainer workshops.
