With the assistance of Yau Tsim District Commander Chung Hung-fung, who is Head Mentor of the Police Mentorship Programme (PMP), 50 PMP mentees, accompanied by their mentors, visited the Yau Ma Tei (YMT) Police Station on January 16.

Yau Ma Tei Division officers first introduced the features of Uniform Branch officers' kit and patrol car equipment to the mentees, while the Division's Task Force Station Sergeant Leung Yat-tung introduced the Division's programme to engage the non-ethnic Chinese community.

The mentees also visited the Report Room and criminal investigation teams to get first hand information on police work from Patrol Sub-unit Commanders and Divisional Investigation Team Officers-in-Charge, gaining a better idea of the work and career developments of Junior Inspectors.

During the visit, the mentors shared their work experiences with the mentees, tried to instill in them positive values, and answered their enquiries about the career development of a Police Inspector.

The PMP is a proactive strategy to attract university graduates aspiring to serve the community to pursue a lifelong career in the Force upon graduation. The programme provides a platform of interaction between undergraduates who join the programme as mentees and inspectorate officers who volunteer their services as mentors.

A joint project between Recruitment Division and local tertiary institutions, the PMP has entered its 5th anniversary, and is expected to expand to cover a total of 10 local universities later this year.

The visit to Yau Ma Tei Police Station is an eye-opener for the Police mentees
