To embrace the Force's "Physical Fitness and Health Management" (PHM) strategy, New Territories North (NTN) Regional Headquarters launched the "Physical Fitness and Health Management Award Scheme" in September 2007. The award scheme for 2008 came to a successful conclusion with a presentation ceremony on February 17.

As a prelude to the ceremony, NTN Regional Commander Cheung Siu-wah started a "PHM Fun Run" with officers along the Lam Tsuen waterfront to encourage NTN RHQs officers to continue to practise PHM and to lead a healthy lifestyle. At the ceremony following the run, letters of appreciation were presented to 37 PHM Ambassadors in appreciation of their efforts to organise and help with various sporting activities, and to promote a healthy lifestyle last year.

In addition, 300 NTN RHQs officers were presented with awards for participating in more than 150 hours of PHM activities. Among them, 12 were presented with Gold Award, 117 with Silver Award and 171 with Bronze Award.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Cheung pointed out that the award scheme aimed at encouraging NTN RHQs officers to participate in various health and fitness activities, fostering a healthy lifestyle, and maintaining a good standard of physical and mental fitness commensurate with the requirements of their duties. He was also pleased to see officers' participation in various PHM activities and their involvement in organisation of these activities after work.

"Officers can enhance their physical fitness and have a better understanding of each other through participation in these activities, which help create good partnership and help officers get the job done," Mr Cheung noted.

The ceremony concluded with the appointment of 48 new PHM Ambassadors to promote more activities with local characteristics and varieties, and to lead their colleagues into a new era of healthy lifestyle.
