Launched in 2006 and funded by the Hongkong Bank Foundation, the two-year scheme was organised by the Police Public Relations Branch with the support of the World Wide Fund Hong Kong (WWF Hong Kong) to raise JPC members' awareness of environmental protection through seminars, field trips and projects.

Mr Tang told the gathering: "JPC members not only devote themselves to fighting crime, but also spare no efforts to combat environmental problems and to promote a better living environment.

"I hope everyone will encourage their family members and friends to join hands with JPC to fight crime, protect our environment and reduce consumption to make Hong Kong a safer and greener city."

Also speaking at the ceremony, Head of Corporate Sustainability, Asia Pacific Region, HSBC, Ms Teresa Au, said: "HSBC is a strong supporter of environmental protection and sustainable development. We have been actively partnering with the community in launching environmental initiatives. Through the environmental badge scheme, we hope to enhance our next generation's knowledge of environmental protection and climate change while encouraging them to adopt a greener lifestyle to combat climate change."

The Chief Executive Officer of WWF Hong Kong, Mr Eric Bohm, also attended the ceremony and presented environmental badges to JPC representatives.
