The 8th Hong Kong Auxiliary Police (HKAP) Sports and Family Day, held at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on January 18, attracted over 6,000 members of the Auxiliary Police and their families, and kicked off a series of celebratory events for the 50th Anniversary of the HKAP.

The day was packed with a variety of events catering for different tastes, including sports competitions, performances by the popular Police Dog Unit and the Auxiliary Police Band, as well as a friendly football match between senior police officers and artistes and staff of Television Broadcasts Limited.

The participants were also treated to various game stalls and display booths set up by the Road Safety Unit of Traffic Kowloon West, Police Handicraft Club and Hong Kong Auxiliary JPO Club. Moreover, the annual event implemented "Engaging the Community" under CP's Strategic Directions by inviting children from the Hong Kong Society for Protection of Children to share the joy and fun of the day.

To show their support for the event, elite sportsmen from the Force, Immigration, Correctional Services, Fire Services, Customs and Excise, Independent Commission Against Corruption, Civil Aid Service, Auxiliary Medical Service and St John Ambulance Brigade took on Auxiliary Police members at tug-of-war, 3-on-3 basketball and indoor rowing. Besides vying for trophies, the participating teams had their friendship cemented, which was one of the objectives of the event.

The day culminated with New Territories North Region Auxiliary winning the overall Regional Championship. Prizes were presented by Commissioner Tang King-shing, Director of Fire Services Lo Chun-hung, Commissioner of Correctional Services Kwok Leung-ming, Deputy Director of Immigration Chiu Wai-kit, Acting Commissioner of St. John Ambulance Brigade Ma Ching-hing, Chief Staff Officer of Civil Aid Service Liu Chi-keung, District Commander of Yau Tsim Mong of Auxiliary Medical Service Yuen Man-kam, Auxiliary Police Commandant Kwok Chi-shun and Deputy Commandant Yiu Yeung-lung.
