Twenty-one officers and family members from the Hong Kong Police Information Technology Society went on a field trip to Shanghai between February 28 and March 2 this year, sampling the city's developments in the commercial, financial, technological and cultural sectors.

Highlights of the tour were visits to the Command Centre of Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Public Security Pudong Division and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The bureau extended a warm welcome to the delegates and gave a presentation on its Command Centre and police district. The delegates were impressed with the high standard of the centre's system, equipment and operation. They exchanged ideas with public security officers on various policing matters, not only enhancing mutual communication but also enabling both sides to get a better idea of each other's work.

The visit to the Shanghai Stock Exchange, the most prominent stock market in the Mainland, threw light on how the financial sector and the Shanghai stock market had developed since last century.

The Shanghai Science and Technology Museum was another highlight of the trip. The Museum has 12 theme exhibition halls on nature, mankind and technology, covering the entire spectrum from the universe, life, wisdom, and creation to future. The Museum's architecture underlines the importance that Shanghai attaches to the development of advanced technology and science education.

As a metropolis, Shanghai is progressing in great strides, and has preserved different cultural legacies, with the Chenghuang Temple being a case in point.

On a scholastic front, the delegates also visited the Fudan University, one of the highest institutions in China with a long history. Passionate students warmly welcomed the delegates and gave a good introduction of their university's history and developments. The University has a special statue called "Shuo Guo", which is a big silver metal ball with lots of golden metal balls inside, symbolising that many prominent students and scholars have graduated from the University since last century.

For the delegates, the Chenghuang Temple is a good example of preservation of cultural legacy in Shanghai
