Officers to have their heads shaved for charity

Chief Inspector David Williams and Mr Robert Ring, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Liaison Officer in Hong Kong, are again participating in a sponsored head shaving event in a bid to raise funds for the St Baldricks Cancer Foundation, an organisation that raises funds for children with cancer in Hong Kong and round the world.

This will be the second year that Bob will have his silvering locks shorn for a good cause. He said: "Last year was my first time and I managed to raise US$1,500 for this well deserving cause. I am looking forward to raising the total this year by having my head shaved again - just in time for the humid weather!"

David, from Regional Crime Unit Kowloon East, who was the MC at the last event held in a restaurant in Lan Kwai Fong, added: "I knew one of the organisers and was very happy to assist a worthy charity. The event raises huge amounts worldwide for kids with cancer. It would be great to boost that amount this year."

This year, to add to the grandeur of the event, Bob's head will be shaved by the Canadian Consul General, Ms Doreen Steidle. Bob is seeking volunteers from the Force to join him in with having their heads shaved or to sponsor him.

"The event will take place on April 21 in Lan Kwai Fong and this year will have a poignant meaning as my mother was diagnosed with colon cancer recently. Although she has recovered, it brought home the scale of the disease," said Bob.
