An insurance company has complimented the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) for bringing an insurance agent to justice for "using a copy of False Instrument".

On behalf of their company, Ms Panky Poon, Vice President and Assistant General Manager, joined by Ms Vinci Hon, Vice President and General Counsel of Law Department and other senior representatives, called at CCB on April 28 and presented a thank you banner to the officers who had investigated the case.

In response to a complaint made by the insurance company regarding a false letter spreading a rumour on September 23 last year, with the purpose of inducing the company's policyholders to terminate their policies, CCB officers immediately conducted a series of intensive investigations.

Upon the advice of the Department of Justice, CCB charged a 46-year-old man with the offence of "using a copy of False Instrument" on April 1 this year. The defendant pleaded guilty at Eastern Magistracy on May 4 and was ordered to carry out community service for 120 hours and to pay cost of $1,000.

Among CCB officers present at the banner presentation were Senior Superintendent (Fraud, Counterfeit and Support) Lee Wing-kong; Superintendent Ho Ying-foo of Fraud "B" Division; Chief Inspector Chan Yu-lung, and Detective Senior Inspector Yu Let-pen.
