Knowledge Cafe on crowd management operations |

What's Knowledge Cafe? Superintendent Eric Cheng, Force Champion of the Knowledge Management Peer Advisers Scheme (PAS), has described Knowledge Cafe as a type of organisational workshop, which aims to provide an open and informal forum for engaging and informative discussions of topics of interest among the facilitator, guest speakers and participants. The first Knowledge Cafe was held on April 27 when speakers from Railway District (RAILDIST), at the invitation of the PAS Team and the Police College Research Centre, shared with about 60 participants their operational experience, by way of case studies, crowd management operations in the railway environment, as well as their views, from both operational and command perspectives, about the operation interface with "Surface Formations". "It is good to learn from and share views with Railway District about crowd management operations. I hope the operations will be more successful," commented one of the participants. SP Cheng stressed that 'people' are the key to success in Knowledge Management and that sharing by way of case studies is the best conduit to drive home important messages, good practices and lessons learned. During this first Knowledge Cafe session, the main presentation was given by a frontline RAILDIST officer, Police Constable Tang Yin-cheung, while RAILDIST Commander So Kam-tong and Deputy District Commander Ng Shan-ho answered questions from the floor and engaged the audience in lively discussions. SP Ng noted that giving Junior Police Officers a chance to conduct a presentation would boost their sense of achievement and beef up their knowledge. "Knowledge Cafe for other more interesting topics will continue. We are here to provide an open platform for all interested colleagues to come, share and learn - from one another," SP Cheng added. The next Knowledge Cafe will be held on June 25 when Chief Superintendent (Human Resources) Chau Kwok-leung leads two Junior Inspectors to share their experiences about the Potential Officers Scheme and the Direct Application Scheme. Watch out for more details on the Force NoticeBoard.
