Vice Admiral Gerard Valin, Commander of the Indian Ocean Maritime Area, leading a delegation from the French Navy, visited Marine Region on May 27 - his second visit to Marine Police since the middle of last year.

Accompanied by Marine Deputy Regional Commander John Cox, the Admiral and delegation members were introduced to the organisation, roles and future direction of maritime policing in Hong Kong.

Following a guided tour of the Regional Command and Control Centre, the visiting party had a very informative round table discussion with Marine Region of the ideas developed after the Admiral's visit to Marine Region last year. This discussion, covering training exchanges, was part of an ongoing process of information exchanges between Marine Region and foreign military and law enforcement agencies.

Finally, the Admiral and delegation members boarded one of the newest Medium Patrol Launches to return to the visiting French warship, the "VAR". The launches have joined the Marine Police Fleet under the Versatile Marine Police Response (VMPR) Programme.
