"As one of the seven million citizens in Hong Kong, it's really a great honour for me to be able to live in one of the safest cities in the world," Mrs Lam noted.
Mrs Lam then referred to her experiences of working closely with the Force in the Treasury, Social Welfare Department, Home Affairs Bureau and Development Bureau to prove that both the Force management and frontline officers had devoted a tremendous amount of efforts to maintaining law and order, including carrying out security work for major functions.
"Both the Force management and individual officers are courageous in making attempts and commitments. The Force is therefore, a fine team that can be counted on.
"I have no doubt that with the Force management team's outstanding performances, as well as individual officers' commitments and devotion, Hong Kong's stability and prosperity will be sustained," she said.
Finally, Mrs Lam congratulated the officers on parade on joining "an outstanding disciplined service" to serve the community.
On parade were 33 Probationary Inspectors, 12 Station Sergeants who have completed the Inspector Induction Course and 201 Recruit Police Constables.
Inspector Tan Tung-fai, who possesses a doctorate degree, was awarded the Brian Slevin Trophy, Baton of Honour and CP's Certificate of Academic Merit.
"Police officers are righteous men; so it was my childhood dream to be a policeman. The rational thinking and determination that I developed in university will definitely be a great help to execution of police duties. I hope I can make good use of my expertise and knowledge in bio-chemistry to tackle various types of crimes," said Inspector Tan.
