Seven officers get Commissioner's Commendation

Seven officers, Senior Superintendent Cheng See-hing; Woman Superintendent Pang Mo-yin; Chief Inspectors Yau Nai-keung, Chu Sai-leung and Li Chi-chung; Senior Inspector Russell Harding, and Station Sergeant Man Ming-sum received Commissioner's Commendation on July 6.

SSP Cheng is commended for his contribution as a member of the Police Negotiation Cadre since 1989 and also as the Deputy Officer-in-charge of the Cadre between 1998 and 2008. He has made a significant contribution to the development of the Cadre, training of its members, and promotion of its professionalism, operational readiness and international standing.

SSP Cheng is also commended for his contribution as Chairperson of the Human Resources Working Group between February 2007 and September 2008, in respect of planning and preparation of human resources management, accreditation, catering, logistical support, welfare and psychological services in support of the policing operation for the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events.

WSP Pang and SIP Harding displayed outstanding performances during a protracted investigation into embezzlement by a branch staff of a Hong Kong registered bank on the Mainland, involving $20 billion of stolen funds being laundered through Hong Kong from 1991 to 2001.

CIP Yau is commended for his leadership, professional ability and devotion to duty of an exceptionally high order displayed in an intelligence-based operation from October 2002 to April 2005 against a prominent triad society active in the New Territories.

CIP Chu displayed outstanding performances between October 2006 and September 2008 as a member of the Force Special Duty Team, in respect of planning, preparation and execution of the policing operations for the Beijing Olympic Torch Relay and the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Equestrian Events, and also as the Deputy Venue Commander of the Hong Kong Olympic/Paralympic Village.

Both CIP Li and SSGT Man are commended for their professional ability of an exceptionally high order displayed in the investigation into a highly organised cross-boundary robbery syndicate responsible for a series of jewellery-in-transit robberies in Hong Kong from March to November 2006.
