Director of the Police College, Dr Cheuk Chun-yin, attended the 17th INTERPOL Training Symposium in Edmonton, Canada, last month. Accompanying him was Force Training Officer, Superintendent Andy Yip. More than 200 delegates from 35 INTERPOL member countries attended the symposium between June 15 and 17. Hosted by INTERPOL Headquarters and the Canadian Association for Police Educators, the three-day symposium aimed at encouraging transnational co-operation and sharing experience and best practices of training and development. A total of 26 speakers presented and shared their knowledge and experience of diverse topics such as training governance, academic/police collaboration, capacity building, and competency-based curriculum. Dr Cheuk also spoke at the symposium on the topic of "Training and Development for New Generation of the Hong Kong Police Force". He highlighted the challenges of training development for the New Generation and the strategies adopted by the Force to tackle those issues. Facing similar challenges, the delegates were very much impressed by the Hong Kong experience and strategies. During his visit, Dr Cheuk also paid a courtesy call on Mr Ronald Noble, INTERPOL Secretary General, and Mr Dale Sheehan, INTERPOL Training Director.
