Tai Po District (TPDIST) is running Project GEN-Y to disseminate anti-crime messages to students in Tai Po and to promote interaction between TPDIST and schools in Tai Po to minimise the chance of students brushing with the law. The project features a series of events, such as community services, basketball tournament for secondary schools, T-shirt design competition for primary schools, workshops and road shows at schools. At a recent inter-school basketball competition, actor Simon Yam turned up to lend support for TPDIST's efforts to disseminate anti-drug messages to students. TPDIST Commander Charles Mitchell pointed out that his district had got tremendous support from all sectors for Project GEN-Y's objective of disseminating anti-crime and anti-drug messages to the students in Tai Po. At the Project GEN-Y Volunteers Appointment Ceremony on July 8, Mr Mitchell appointed 50 police volunteers, who are going to lead primary and secondary students in Tai Po to take part in community services, in a bid to make the students more aware of their civic responsibilities. Chairman of the Tai Po District Fight Crime Committee (TP DFCC), Mr Li Yiu-bun, and five members of TP DFCC and North DFCC attended the Appointment Ceremony to show their support for TPDIST's various initiatives. Said one of the police volunteers, Connie, about her appointment: "I'm really glad to be a member of the volunteer team. I will set a good role model for my colleagues and the students so as to encourage them to participate in community services." During the Appointment Ceremony, two schools in Sheung Shui presented certificates of appreciation to officers of TPDIST Anti-Triad Squad, TPDIST Police Community Relations Office, New Territories North Charlie Company and Sheung Shui Task Force for providing assistance in organising workshops and foot drill sessions for their students.
