Yau Tsim District (YTDIST) has been striving to forge a closer and more proactive liaison with all sectors of the community, including Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) communities, in a bid to strengthen their confidence in the Force and enlist their support for policing strategies.

As a result of YTDIST's long-standing relationship with the Indian community, the India Association of Hong Kong has offered an "Outstanding Police Officer Award" for three consecutive years to officers of YTDIST for their services to the community, and their devotion to duty and professionalism.

Tsim Sha Tsui Division Assistant Divisional Commander Mohammad Khan was presented with the award for providing extraordinary services for NEC communities, such as organising community services for Kowloon Mosque by police volunteers and Recruit Police Constables, and helping NEC and local JPC members form a cricket team.

Detective Senior Inspector Ho Chi-chung of the District Anti-triad Squad and Sergeant Lo Cheuk-hong of a Patrol Sub-unit of Yau Ma Tei Division were also honoured for their investigations into a murder and a spate of robberies victimising sex workers.

The India Association held an award presentation ceremony on August 14, which coincided with the celebration of the 62nd Anniversary of the Independence of India. Among the guests of honour were Consul General of India, Mr L D Ralte; Chairman of the Legislative Council, Mr Tsang Yuk-shing; Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose S K Lee; Director of Crime and Security Lee Ka-chiu; Kowloon West Regional Commander Tang How-kong, and Acting YTDIST Commander Paul Lau.
