New and outgoing members of the New Territories South (NTS) Regional Complaints Prevention Working Group attended a handover ceremony on August 18, with NTS Regional Commander Tse Shu-chun officiating and presenting letters of appreciation to outgoing members, and letters of appointment to new members.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tse praised outgoing members for their enthusiastic support and contributions, and had words of encouragement for new members. He pointed out that as it appeared that complaints were rising in the first two quarters of 2009, new members were facing a bigger challenge and shouldering heavier responsibilities. He also reminded outgoing members to continue to promote complaints prevention messages after leaving the working group.

The new members held their first meeting before the handover ceremony, and at the meeting, their Chairman, Kwai Tsing District Deputy District Commander Cheung Wing-fai, called on them to come forward with views and suggestions.

The working group was formed in August 2007 with the objectives of mapping out strategies to prevent complaints, and helping the Force Complaints Prevention Committee bring its messages to frontline officers. The group also brings the views of frontline officers to the attention of the Complaints Against Police Office.

The working group comprises representatives at the ranks of Inspector or above from Regional Headquarters, formations and units in NTS. Junior Police Officer representatives are also invited to attend meetings of the group.
