First green rooftop open

The Force's first green rooftop, called "Oasis", was officially opened in Cheung Sha Wan Police Station on August 18.

In recent years, under the green house effect, global temperatures have hit record highs. Environmentalists have advised that green rooftops help lower the room temperature of a building, reduce energy consumption and provide a comfortable working environment. "Oasis" was made possible with the full support of Sham Shui Po District Commander Pauline Ng Tsui Fung-ying and the enthusiastic participation by officers of Sham Shui Po District in the past few months.

Sham Shui Po District was extremely honoured to have Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Council, Dr Chan Tung; Chairman of Sham Shui Po District Fight Crime Committee, Dr Eric Cheng Kam-chung; Director of Finance, Administration and Planning Yeung Yiu-shing, and Kowloon West Commander Tang How-kong as officiating guests at a tree planting and inauguration ceremony.

During the ceremony, the officiating guests presented commemorative plaques to Sham Shui Po District frontline officers for permanent display in "Oasis", extolling police-public understanding and co-operation as the pillars for the fight against crime. All of those present at the ceremony hoped the seed of community policing would flourish in "Oasis".

This first Police green rooftop, though being a modest venture, is a good start and will hopefully play a pioneering role for the Force's efforts to support environmental protection.
