Encouraged by officers' enthusiastic response to the "Police Safe Driving Workshop" organised last year, Traffic Hong Kong Island (T HKI) held a second round of this workshop at the Police Officers' Club last month, drawing over 100 driving cadre and non-driving cadre officers from operational and crime units on Hong Kong Island. Speaking at the opening of the workshop, T HKI Senior Superintendent Wise Choy reiterated the importance of safe driving, and urged all attendees, especially motorcyclists, to pay more attention to traffic condition while passing traffic light controlled junctions on urgent jobs. The issues of risk control of Occupational Safety and Health and safe driving were also raised during discussion on reducing occupational accidents. The workshop started with an analysis by Senior Inspector Yu Sum-lun of T HKI on the traffic accidents that occurred on Hong Kong Island over the past two years, involving Police officers on duty. He illustrated the importance of buckling up seat belts and maintaining good driving attitude and techniques, particularly for motorcyclists crossing tram tracks. Woman Senior Inspector Sung Lai-fun of Regional Motor Transport Office of HKI and Marine then took over the stage to remind the attendees of the dos and don'ts as a safe driver and to highlight the importance of vehicle maintenance. The workshop concluded with a review of the "Ten Commandments" of safe driving by HKI Road Safety Officers. Mr Choy said he was confident that the workshop would help Police drivers maintain a high driving standard as well as good driving skills and attitudes, and would contribute to reducing traffic accidents involving Police drivers.
