Shortly after commencement of the new school year, Yuen Long District (YLDIST) Acting District Commander Gary Field, accompanied by Yuen Long Acting Divisional Commander Leung Kwong-kin, officiated at the orientation day of the United Muslim Association of the Hong Kong International Primary School in Yuen Long.

YLDIV arranged its Patrol Sub-unit Commander Inspector (IP) Erictony Yiu to give a talk on "bullying in school" to students from many ethnic groups, including Nepal, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, and New Zealand. It was IP Yiu's first close contact with such students and he enjoyed interacting with the students after his talk.

YLDIST has launched "Project Sunshine" to engage Non-ethnic Chinese (NEC) with a three-pronged approach, involving their community leaders, youths and the general public. Yuen Long has a large NEC population - 19,313 or 3.72 per cent out of a total population of 538,600. The largest NEC groups in Yuen Long are Nepalese and Pakistani mainly living in public housing estates and villages. Among the 10,384 JPC members in YLDIST, 96 are Nepalese and 33, Pakistani.
