Starting from this issue, OffBeat publishes an "Appreciation Corner" column to convey the views of the public regarding the Force and Force members. The following is a letter to Wan Chai District Commander from an expatriate teacher, complimenting Inspector Chan Chun-cheung, Sergeant Lo Shiu-wai and members of the Wan Chai District Special Duties Squad 2 for their hard work and dedication to duty in investigating a vice establishment.

Dear Sir,

I am writing to compliment you on members of your special branch.

A few months ago, I made a report about some prostitutes working out of rooms on the same floor as my flat in Causeway Bay.

Inspector Chan and Sergeant Lo came to my flat to ask me some questions about the situation. I was most impressed with their professional, yet reassuring manner. I was a little nervous, but they made me feel at ease.

On Saturday night when I returned from work, I was most surprised to see several people in the passage near my flat. I recognised Inspector Chan and Sergeant Lo. I imagine that this team has worked extremely hard on this case to get to this point. They were still working very late that night and I was most concerned for their health.

I have lived in four different countries and have yet to see such service from any police members with whom I have come into contact.

I know that people usually write letters of complaint, so I wanted to write to you with this positive feedback. I felt that this team so deserve recognition for all their work in helping to make Hong Kong a safe and happy place in which to live and feel privileged to have had the opportunity to have met some of them.

Diane
