The "Sha Tin District Youth Anti-drug Trophy Football Tournament 2009/2010" kicked off at the Ma On Shan Playground, Sha Tin, on December 19, with 21 teams comprising 400 players from 19 secondary schools and two youth groups in Sha Tin participating.

The event was jointly organised by Sha Tin District (STDIST), Sha Tin District Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents Association, Sha Tin District Fight Crime Committee, Sha Tin District Office, Leisure and Cultural Services Department, Sha Tin District Social Welfare Office, Sha Tin District Secondary School Heads Association and Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council Neo-Horizon in support of the Territory-wide Anti-drug Day and the Government's promotional campaign against abuse of psychotropic drugs by youth.

After the ceremony, two friendly matches were played between Sha Tin District Football Team and Christian Zheng Sheng College Football Team, and between the Sha Tin District Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents Association Invitation Team and Police Ladies Football Team. The players came up with an exciting performance in both matches, and at the end STDIST Football Team beat the youthful and energetic students of Zheng Sheng College narrowly by one goal, while the Police Ladies Football Team lost by merely one goal to the Sha Tin District Junior Police Call Honorary Presidents Association Invitation Team.

The matches of the tournament will be played every Friday, Saturday and Sunday until mid-April. The organisers hope the event would draw Sha Tin youngsters to gainful and healthy sports, and steer them away from drugs.
