It is by no means easy to detect the "quick cash" crime of pickpocketing, but officers of the Railway District (RAILDIST) Task Force Sub-unit (TFSU) managed to make six arrests in October last year alone. Recently Kowloon East Regional Commander Suen Kwai-leung called at RAILDIST Headquarters and personally commended TFSU officers, Sergeant (SGT) Ho Tat-tung, Senior Police Constable Lam Yat-ming, Police Constables (PC) Li Hon-shing, Ho Yan and Wong Ka-lai, for their professional performance and the arrest of two Mongolian offenders.

Speaking of the arrests, SGT Ho said: "To make an anti-pickpocket operation successful, my team made a great deal of effort and followed tactical strategies such as maintaining close liaison with MTRC staff and the shops within the railway system, making use of the information collected by frontline officers, analysing the latest crime trend and identifying crime black spots and offenders' modus operandi. Finally, we planned our operations."

PC Li added: "We classify passengers into two categories, ordinary passengers and potential offenders. After making the classification, we plan operations to deal with pickpocketing and other crimes, using our observation and surveillance skills."

SGT Ho is expected to share his knowledge and experience of tackling pickpocketing with his colleagues in the next round of Training Day of RAILDIST.

Kowloon East Regional Commander Suen Kwai-leung compliments the TFSU officers for a job well done
