In a bid to prevent shoplifting, pickpocket and miscellaneous thefts in Tsim Sha Tsui, Tsim Sha Tsui Division's (TSTDIV) Task Force recently tailor-made an anti-theft symposium for the security guards of a shopping arcade.

Conducted by Acting Chief Inspector Mak Bo-yin, Assistant Divisional Commander (Operations), and Station Sergeant Chui Yiu-wing, Assistant Officer-in-Charge of the Task Force, the symposium was held in the Security Office of the China Hong Kong City Shopping Arcade for over 60 security guards. During the symposium, Task Force members briefed the audience on their jobs, law, crime black spots, and culprits' traits and modus operandi. They also offered advice on how to handle suspicious persons and the ways to co-operate with the Task Force. The Task Force also distributed copies of a pocket-sized Security Guard Action Card, which was specially designed by the Task Force for security guards to carry while on duty.

Thanking the Police for organising the symposium, the management of the Security Office hoped that more similar events would be organised to enhance their security guards' knowledge of crime prevention.

TSTDIV was organising such "take-away" symposium in a shopping arcade for the first time as a pilot scheme. Encouraged by the initial success of the event, TSTDIV will extend the scheme to cover other shopping arcades.
