This third article focusses on the Operation Communication Solutions Division (OCD) of the Information Technology Branch. OCD Senior Systems Manager Tse Woon-por (known to his colleagues as WP) is on attachment from the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO). In his 24 years' government service, he had served in many departments, including Lands and Works Bureau, Registration and Electoral Office and ICAC. WP joined the Force in May 2006 and his responsibility is to manage and supervise project teams in support of numerous essential systems for frontline units, including CC3, Common Access Terminal (CTA), Departmental Portal (DP) and new CIS. Asked about the difficulties he had encountered at his present post, he replied: "Many, but they were overcome with the hard work and dedication of my team members as well as the co-operation of Force users and various related parties." The second OCD specialist is Mr Sunny Ho Ka-shun, Systems Manager of OCD Team 3. A true stalwart with over 20 years' government service, Sunny's parent bureau is also the OGCIO. He joined the Force in October 2007 and is responsible for administering the CTA, DP, anti-virus and anti-spyware, and Force Information Security Manual. He also provides technical consultancy services on IT security matters, including security in IT policy, operating systems, data communication, database, desktop environment and application software. The current major project that WP and Sunny are working on is the Enhancement of the DP. The project started in October last year and is scheduled for completion at the end of March this year. The project is expected to ensure the stability of the DP as the gateway to networked applications and services, and enhance the existing functions to improve the workflow and facilitate user support. Upon completion of the project, frontline officers will no longer be required to re-enter username and password when accessing e-Services, and Internet via POINT. This will enhance user efficiency and at the same time has no negative impact on the security level of systems. An additional benefit of better integration is removal of re-authentication and repetitive warning messages. Throughput will make system flow smoother. Officers of the Information Systems Wing greatly appreciate the dedication of WP and Sunny to enhancing the efficiency of Force IT systems.
