Police Public Relations Branch (PPRB) is delighted to announce the launch of the revamped Police Public Page (PPP).

PPRB Support Section Senior Inspector (SIP) Rimmy Cheng explained the aim of the project: "As part of the Force's commitment to make better use of the Internet to engage the community, the PPP has undergone a face-lift with a view to providing an improved and user-friendly experience for its online visitors. The revamped website incorporates a host of new features that will make it much easier for netizens to find out crime prevention advice and other timely information about the Force."

The revamp project is a collaboration of PPRB and Information Technology Branch (ITB). The content of the new website www.police.gov.hk is a complete restructure over the old version, and new surfing tools such as navigation bars have been introduced to improve its usability and search efficiency.

New Features

Introducing other new features added to the website, SIP Cheng pointed out: "Based on an analysis of user feedback and website statistics, we have identified seven most popular themes, including police recruitment and traffic matters, and they have been placed in the prominent area of the homepage with colourful short-cut keys to draw netizens' attention. The e-banners have also been expanded to cover more important themes and they are now aligned on the right hand side of the homepage with attractive icons and short cuts to facilitate direct access to information. There is also a dedicated section, "Interest Corner" for younger visitors, containing teen-friendly features, such as free games, ringtone and wallpaper downloads."

Enrichment of Content

SIP Cheng added:"The new website has also enriched its animation and other multi-media content to make it more appealing and up-to-date. A section, "Photo and Video Gallery" has been dedicated to showcase episodes of "Police Magazine" and OffBeat, and other Government promotional videos to netizens. We will soon continue to source and upload more videos produced by frontline Formations featuring the diverse and unique nature of police work."

PPRB would like to take this opportunity to thank the Project Team of the revamped website. The successful launching is due in no small part to the efforts of Formation Content Managers who have provided the latest website content; each member of the PPP Working Group; Police Constable Li Kai-pong who has been re-deployed from Traffic New Territories South under the "Development Programme for Junior Officers with Potential" to redesign the website, and a professional team from ITB, especially Mr Arnold Lee and Mr Tommy Tsang for their technical advice and support.

Formations are encouraged to utilise the PPP to promote the positive image of the Force. PPRB also welcomes contributions and ideas in order to continue to enhance the website.
