Police College wins another ISO Certificate
The Police Operational Learning Division (POLD) of the Police College achieved the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) 9001:2008 Certification in December last year. The Division has been the second "Quality Management Organisation" certified by the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency (HKQAA) in the Police College since 2003 when the Junior Police Officer Development Learning Division was first awarded the ISO Certificate.
February 8 was a memorable day for all POLD staff when College Director Dr Albert Cheuk received the ISO 9001:2008 Certificate from HKQAA Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michael Lam, at a presentation ceremony held at the Seminar Hall at Police Headquarters.
Dr Cheuk said after the presentation: "The ISO Award is a recognition of the tremendous efforts by the Division in providing high quality training to serving officers. Last year, 8,500 officers attended various IT and Mock Court Training programmes run by the Division, which were essential for enhancement of Force members' personal and professional qualities so that they can provide the highest standard of service to the community."
Certification of POLD training courses is a major achievement, reassuring local and international institutes that the Police College's training services have reached the highest standard as certified by an independent and globally recognised professional body.
The award of the ISO Certificate demonstrates not only the commitment of the POLD staff but also their increasing awareness of quality management. One of the POLD instructors, Station Sergeant Li Hung-lap, said the certification process had enriched his knowledge of quality assurance and management. "I believe we all found the experience valuable and gained a solid foundation for high service quality and continual improvement," he added.
In addition to teamwork, commitment of the top management is another critical success factor. Woman Senior Superintendent Jocelyn Cheung of the Professional Development Learning Centre (PDLC) and Woman Superintendent Christina Leung of POLD have provided full support, direction and resources to make the project a resounding success.
Following the successful ISO Certifications of JPO DLD in 2003 and POLD in 2009, PDLC will continue to strive for new heights by pursuing ISO certification for courses run by the Management Learning Division. This underlines the strong determination and relentless pursuit of excellence for the professional training services delivered by the Police College.
