At the invitation of the Economic Crime Investigation Department (ECID) of the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) attended the 6th "Shanghai-Hong Kong Economic Crime Investigation Practice" Seminar in Shanghai from January 27 to 29. The ECID Director, Mr Cheng Yiping, and other ECID Officers-in-charge also attended the seminar. In his opening speech, CCB Chief Superintendent Cheung Kwai-kee stressed that for tackling cross-boundary commercial crimes more effectively, the seminar had an important role to play by helping further enhance the communication and understanding between CCB and Mainland law enforcement agency, and by reinforcing the intelligence network for commercial crime investigation. During the seminar, representatives from both sides had constructive discussions on topics such as the commercial crime situation in Hong Kong and the Mainland, insurance fraud and pyramid-selling scheme related fraud. The discussions boosted the understanding between CCB officers and their Shanghai counterparts, auguring well for co-operation between the two sides at various levels. The visit to Shanghai has not only achieved the aim of strengthening the partnership between CCB and the Mainland, but also allowed commercial crime investigation officers of both sides to share experiences in intelligence-led investigations. Apart from combatting cross-boundary commercial crime, both sides will continue to enhance exchange and co-operation in the areas of Internet commercial crime, human resources and training.
