FEG charts way forward

Members of the Force Escort Group (FEG) recently held their annual "Away Day" at the Tai Mei Tuk Activity Training Centre to chart their way forward. The FEG is one of the secondary duty cadres within the Force, responsible for escorting VIP and other motorcades, and comprising 60 officers almost entirely from Regional Traffic formations.

During the "Away Day" all team leaders and non-commissioned officers reviewed their operations and developments over the past 12 months since the FEG's reorganisation, and set targets and focuses for the year ahead. Among the topics discussed were escort strategies and tactics, command and control of escorts and communications during escorts.

The opportunity was also taken to introduce and discuss the first draft of a new FEG Manual and to show a new protective jacket for FEG members. Presenting the draft manual, Senior Inspector Sammy Chik told FEG members that the new FEG Manual not only combined all of the existing written materials on the FEG, but also incorporated some hitherto unwritten experience. He described the manual as a "dynamic knowledge management tool".

Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Wong Chi-hung joined one of the morning sessions of the "Away Day" and encouraged those present to make the most of the opportunity to freely express their views about how the FEG could fine-tune their operations in the year ahead. Admiring the new FEG protective jacket, Mr Wong noted the combination of materials to produce a good, year-round jacket. It features a different colour and design from the existing Force protective jacket and would enable FEG members to more easily distinguish each other during escorts.

Before the "Away Day" concluded, FEG members identified human resources and succession planning as amongst the most critical issues to be tackled in the year ahead. They all vowed to maintain the professional standard with which the FEG is synonymous.
