Junior Police Call (JPC) school clubs and students joined forces to reinforce anti-drug messages in schools by designing classroom decoration boards, screen savers and web pages at the "JPC School Clubs Beat-Drugs Creativity Workshop".

The workshop was a school-based project under the auspices of the Police Public Relations Branch. It adopted the theme of "Healthy schools and sunny students beat drugs together" to raise students' awareness of the adverse impact of drugs, and promote closer co-operation between schools and students in fighting drug abuse and building healthy campuses. Following conclusion of the workshop, more than 130 primary and secondary school clubs submitted their outstanding entries for a competition.

The prize presentation ceremony of the competition was held on February 9 at Youth Square, Chai Wan. Officiating at the ceremony were the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, Chairman of the Action Committee Against Narcotics, Prof Daniel Shek, Commissioner for Narcotics, Ms Sally Wong, and Commissioner Tang King-shing.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tang stressed that the Force played an important role in tackling the problems of youth drug abuse. Besides strengthening enforcement actions and intelligence-gathering to combat the supply of drugs, the Force had stepped up publicity of the messages in beating drugs, fighting crime and leading healthy lifestyles among the youth through the network of JPC school clubs and their activities.

Appreciating the joint efforts of schools, parents, students and JPC school clubs in combatting drug abuse, Mr Tang pointed out that the support of principals' associations was also crucial to promoting anti-drug education. By adopting their suggestions and organising the creativity workshop, it was hoped that anti-drug messages would be disseminated to all contestants and their peers through various media and other means.

The champions of the primary and secondary schools classroom decoration board categories were Po Leung Kuk Chan Yat Primary School and Church of Christ in China Kwei Wah Shan College respectively. The winners of the primary and secondary schools screen saver categories were Shan Tsui Public School and Buddhist Ho Nam Kam College respectively.

Only secondary schools took part in the web page category, with Our Lady of the Rosary College capturing the title. All winners received their trophies from the officiating guests.

An exhibition of the winning designs was launched at the prize ceremony. After being staged at the Central Library in Causeway Bay from February 10 to 23, the exhibition will continue at the Hong Kong Jockey Club Drug InfoCentre in Admiralty next month.
