The 9th Hong Kong Auxiliary Police (HKAP) Sports and Family Day took place at the Police Sports and Recreation Club on January 17, attracting 6,000 members of the Auxiliary Police and their families.

The day was packed with a variety of events catering for different tastes, including sports competitions, a Police Dog show, joint performance by the Auxiliary Police Band and the Civil Aid Service Band and a friendly football match between senior police officers and the artistes and staff of Television Broadcasts Limited. The Parent-Child Indoor Rowing Competition helped foster parent-child relationship with sports.

The participants were also treated to various game stalls and display booths set up by the Road Safety Unit of Traffic Kowloon West, Police Handicraft Club and Hong Kong Auxiliary Junior Police Officers Club.

To show their support for the annual event, sportsmen from the Auxiliary Medical Service, Civil Aid Service, Correctional Services, Customs and Excise, Fire Services, Government Flying Service, Immigration, Independent Commission Against Corruption, St John Ambulance Brigade and the Force took on Auxiliary Police members at tug-of-war, 3-on-3 basketball and indoor rowing. Besides vying for trophies, the participating teams had their friendship cemented, which was one of the objectives of the event.

The day culminated with Kowloon East Region Auxiliary winning the overall Regional Championship. Prizes were presented by Commissioner Tang King-shing, and guests from other departments.
