Following the recent introduction of new guidelines on searching of detained persons with special needs, Support Wing launched a poster design competition in a bid to raise awareness of the guidelines among officers. The competition subsequently attracted entries from 85 officers and civilian staff.

In a ceremony on March 19, 12 prizes were presented, comprising Gold, Silver and Bronze medals, as well as nine outstanding awards. With funds from the Police Staff Motivation Scheme, the prize-winning designs were awarded with cash coupons ranging from $300 to $1,000. Copies of an A2-size poster of the top design have been distributed to all formations.

"The poster design competition provides a very good platform for officers to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of human rights and treatment of detained persons with special needs. I'm indebted to and appreciate the efforts of those who participated and I'm convinced that the winning design will raise officers' awareness," said Assistant Commissioner (Support) Austin Kerrigan.

Besides the poster design competition, Support Wing has launched a Custody Management and Detention (CMD) Webpage on POINT Hexagon. The webpage provides officers with a one-stop easy reference to materials related to the Force's custody and detention management, such as the Force's most updated orders, procedures and guidelines; Training Day package; downloadable forms frequently used by frontline officers; Legislative Council papers and legal advice; lessons learned from past incidents, and CMD A - Z Index.

Officers who have any comments or suggestions on custody management and detention may contact the CMD Office on 2860-3723 or email: cmd-office-support.

Mr Kerrigan appreciates Force members' support for the poster design competition
